AccessHope Appoints Todd M. Sachs, M.D., as Chief Medical Officer

New executive position will lead clinical team and oversee execution of
remote delivery of industry-leading cancer support services

DUARTE, Calif. — (Dec. 10, 2020) — AccessHope, a wholly owned subsidiary of City of Hope, an independent National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated biomedical research and treatment center, and a nationwide provider of remote cancer support solutions to nearly 2 million members and counting, today announced that Todd M. Sachs, M.D., has joined the company as its chief medical officer. Dr. Sachs brings extensive health care and medical experience to AccessHope and will leverage his background and expertise to bolster the company’s foothold across the United States. In this new capacity, Dr. Sachs will help drive the company’s mission to bridge the cancer knowledge gap in the always-advancing field of cancer research by supporting the growth and development of AccessHope’s affiliations with other NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers. He also will oversee all clinical operations, serving as the primary clinical lead for the organization.

“As an experienced physician, Dr. Sachs is poised to make a meaningful contribution to our work by remotely connecting individuals to world-renowned cancer expertise,” said Mark Stadler, CEO, AccessHope. “Dr. Sachs joins AccessHope at a time when we are experiencing strong employer demand for cancer support services and expanding our network of experts to further our commitment to optimizing care for people facing cancer, regardless of their location. We couldn’t be prouder to have him step into this important role connecting people and their treating oncologists to the knowledge and experience of our world-class network of physicians and the latest in cancer research and treatment options.”

As chief medical officer, Dr. Sachs will be part of AccessHope’s executive team and oversee the execution of the company’s remote delivery of leading-edge cancer support services, which include Accountable Precision Oncology, Expert Advisory Review, Cancer Support Team and Expert Evaluation. He also will work to ensure AccessHope’s collaborative support—which includes diagnosis and treatment plan consultation, recommendations on possible clinical trials, precision medicine guidance and other best practices—is informed by leading-edge research.

“I am honored to help advance AccessHope’s mission to take the ever-growing body of cancer research and put it to work for the greater good,” said Dr. Sachs. “This groundbreaking approach not only enables knowledge-sharing within the oncology community, but it also helps to optimize a patient’s chance for survival. AccessHope offers a tremendous benefit for those touched by cancer—it means that anyone, anywhere, can benefit from today’s extraordinary innovations in oncology.”

Previously, Dr. Sachs served as executive vice president of corporate development and finance for The Permanente Foundation and also served Kaiser Permanente’s Southern California Permanente Medical Group (SCPMG) as the Regional Medical Director of Operations. He was responsible for all ambulatory operations across Southern California, including physician workforce planning and overall service delivery strategy. During his tenure, he implemented a host of innovative programs that resulted in improved care and service to members.

Dr. Sachs joins AccessHope on the heels of the company’s formal launch in October. Last month, the company also announced a novel collaboration that brings together two NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers—City of Hope and Northwestern Medicine—to deliver world-renowned expertise to employers, patients and treating oncologists nationwide.

A board-certified surgeon, Dr. Sachs completed his surgical residency at Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, belongs to the California Medical Association and the Los Angeles Surgical Society and was formerly a clinical assistant professor at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California. Dr. Sachs earned his Doctor of Medicine from Chicago Medical School at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science and his Bachelor of Science from University of Wisconsin-Madison. He resides in Los Angeles.
